Why Is Self-Care Important?

Why Is Self-Care Important?

We often hear the word “Self-Care” but many people are not paying much attention, that’s why they don’t know that not everything feels good is right for you.

Sound so simple but have you tried putting yourself first before others without feeling guilty or selfish?

Setting boundaries is healthy. Do you overwork yourself, skip your meals, find reasons to have no social life and not working out?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you need to set some boundaries in your life.

Self-care is having a healthy relationship with yourself. When you are not taking time for your needs and forget to nurture yourself, the phrase “hard work pays off” will make you miserable and let's face it, no one wants to live a miserable life.

Don’t neglect your "self-care", learn the benefits for your mental, physical, emotional, well being.

Here are a few tips on how we can get this done:

  1. Better Motivation and Productivity

When we are overwhelmed at home and work, our mind is floating and we are struggling to think. It’s hard to pull ourselves from confusion and disinterest.

But in order to get things done and meet the deadline, allow yourself to have occasional time outs. Lose the guilt of taking getting a break, start refreshing and energizing yourself.

The more productive and motivated you are, the easier it will be for you to stay focused, centered and have an overall positive performance.

  1. Good Health

A healthy work-life balance is important. It does not matter how busy you are, you should give yourself a time to eat healthily and exercise. Not prioritizing yourself may lead to all sorts of health issues.

Remember that, not everything feels good, is right and that applies to the foods you eat as well. Self-care is respecting your body. Eating well means to eat healthy.

Our bodies are the foundation of good health, let us consume foods that are good for us and serve our bodies well.

Exercising or working out requires time but it will increase our life span. This means we need to make exercise as a daily part of our self-care routine. Exercise can improve your health, reduce stress, boost your mood and lessen anxiety.

  1. Me-Time

Pamper yourself and give your body a special treatment. These are natural ways to relieve stress and feel relaxed. As Audre Lorde said, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

Your age, job, and stage don't matter, everyone deserves a full self-care routine. During your me-time, you can meditate, treat yourself to a massage, warm baths, deep condition your hair and skin, DIY facial and even taking the time to moisturize your face and body (this can be very relaxing).

Take Me Away Essentials offers a full treatment for your hair and skin, that lives a soothing feeling. The Hair and Body Set will make your hair shiny, soft, stronger and healthy. Your skin will lock in moisture, nourish and smoothen.

Take Me Away Essentials Hair and Body Set is consists of Hair and Body Butter, Hair and Body Oil, with 5 relaxing scents.

  1. Give, Share and Care More

“Be there for others, but never leave yourself behind.” ~Dodinsky

Taking care of ourselves is the opposite of being selfish. You can’t pour from an empty cup. We are unable to support and help others if our energy is depleted.

For you to save your loved ones, learn not to sacrifice yourself. Even on an airplane, when putting your oxygen mask, the flight attendant instructs you to put yours first. Because how can you help others if you already run out of oxygen?

I know that it feels amazing to help others. But engaging in self-care will give you the energy and capacity to give more to others.

      5. Preserving Mental Health

The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and can make contributions to his or her community.”

To be in full awareness, our mind and body need to work together, and in order for us to take care of your mental health, it should begin with personal awareness.

We cannot control stressors, but we can learn how to manage ourselves in situations and choose how to react. Everyone deserves to feel their best self. If you find that you are not coping well with the challenges of life get the necessary help needed.

Don’t wait until the mind and body break down. Do not delay, start investing in yourself today. You know yourself better than anyone else, you know what you needed, not just to function, but to flourish.

Go be your absolute best self.

For many relationships, the pandemic has brought about a strain on our relationships.

It could be the slowing down of life and couples having to spend more time with each other learning each other’s pattern outside of the “after work” let’s grab something to eat and go to bed pattern.

It could also be a job cut and/or a decrease in one’s scheduled hours (if you are experiencing this my heart is with you and I pray your situation improves soon).

The truth is we can continue to watch the chaos of our lives unfold, tearing our relationship apart day after day while we live in misery and do nothing about it, or we could make small changes daily to improve the relationship with our spouses.
